Family homeless prevention and assistance Program
The Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program (FHPAP) provides supportive services and financial assistance, including rent deposits and rent or utility payments, to eligible households that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. The goal of this program is to prevent evictions, provide stabilization services and case management, and increase self-sufficiency. This program is for Hennepin County residents who meet the following eligibility criteria: income at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines, Minnesota residents (or household otherwise approved by Minnesota Housing), and currently experiencing a housing crisis. Assistance is offered without preconditions (such as employment, income, absence of criminal record, or sobriety) and the resources and services provided are tailored to the needs of the person. Households are assessed by FHPAP providers to determine eligibility and level of assistance. Funds are limited may not be available for all households.
Section 8 supportive housing
MIWRC maintains 14 two-and three-bedroom Section 8 apartments to provide long-term housing for families who have experiences chronic homelessness. MIWRC's ability to provide high-quality Supportive Housing directly in the heart of the urban Native community also facilitates clients' access to culturally responsive healthcare, social, and recreational services offered in the East Philips neighborhood. Tenants have a demonstrated commitment to sobriety and agreement to MIWRC's zero tolerance policy for onsite substance use, gang affiliation, and/or interpersonal violence are Supportive Housing residential requirements.
